About this game
The Glorious Cause Is a Historically Grounded, Hex-based Strategy and Tactics Game That Places the Player in Command During the American Revolution, From Small, Desperate Engagements to the Full Scope of the War for Independence.
Blending Tactical Battlefield Command with Long-term Strategic Decision-making, the Game Is Designed to Evolve From Individual Battles Into a Living Strategic Experience That Ultimately Covers the Entire Conflict.
Each Battle Is Extensively Researched Using Historical Sources to Recreate Its Order of Battle, Troop Strengths, Commanders, Deployment, Objectives, and Known Unit Locations as Accurately as Surviving Records Allow.
Face an Enemy That Plans, Defends, and Counterattacks Like a Real Commander, So No Two Battles Are Ever Alike.
A Living Game, Built in Phases
The Glorious Cause is being developed and released in clearly defined phases. Each phase is a complete, fully playable experience, expanding the game’s scope, systems, and depth over time.
Lead historically organized American, British, and Hessian forces through four battles, experience the battles of the Ten Crucial Days from opposing perspectives and see if you can turn the tides of war!
The Battle of Trenton: Rall Reads the Message. Colonel Rall receives the message warning that Washington’s army is moving toward Trenton, leaving the Hessian garrison aware of the approaching attack.
The Battle of Trenton: Historical. The Hessians are unaware of Washington’s approach. Move quietly toward Trenton, preserve the element of surprise, charge the sleeping Hessians to overwhelm and capture entire regiments as Washington did in the legendary victory.
The Second Battle of Trenton: Fight the desperate struggle at Trenton as Washington's army confronts the advancing British forces before its daring nighttime maneuver toward Princeton.
The Battle of Princeton: Command American or British forces in the climactic engagement of the Ten Crucial Days campaign.
Let Loose The Dragoons! Deploy British and Hessian Dragoon formations with their own mounted and dismounted battlefield capabilities.
Expanded Revolutionary War Unit Roster: Command American State Militia, British Loyalist Militia, British Line Infantry, American Riflemen, Hessian Jägers, British Light Infantry, British and Hessian Grenadiers, and more.
Expanded Artillery Forces: Command historical American, British, and Hessian artillery batteries and use their firepower to support your army across the battlefield. Position, limber, unlimber, maneuver, and fire artillery batteries. Fire Solid Shot for long range cannonade, or when the enemy gets close use Canister to break up the enemy formation.
Weapon types: Multiple different guns and weapons give each unit unique bonuses to damage, range and accuracy.
Create detachments from larger formations, integrate them into units that are holding key objectives, or use them to screen flanks, hold ground, reinforce positions, or conduct independent missions.
Merge depleted detachments and formations into new units. A detachment does not have to return to its original parent formation, giving you greater freedom to reorganize your army during battle.
Enemy movement can trigger automatic defensive volleys from formations, making advances through an established battle line dangerous and forcing players to consider facing, range, ammunition, and line of sight.
Command American, British, and Hessian armies through Division and Army Commanders. Control ammunition expenditure at the command level by disabling Responsive Fire for an entire division, or across the whole army with a single order.
Brigade & Unit Commanders rally the troops under their command, while Division & Army Commanders can move across the battlefield to support formations, restore cohesion, steady shaken troops, and respond to developing crises.
Follow casualties, captured troops, Stragglers, Deserters, routed formations, and remaining manpower for both armies as the battle unfolds with our detailed battlefield interface.
Unit Experience: Units gain battlefield experience through every combat encounter and can progress from inexperienced formations toward Veteran, Professional, and even Elite status.
Morale, Organization & Battlefield Attrition: Long marches, combat, casualties, Stragglers, Desertion, routing, and leadership all affect whether a formation can continue fighting effectively.
Roads, snow, woods, towns, elevation, streams, rivers, bridges, and other terrain affect movement, positioning, combat, and the routes available to your army.

Leader Bonuses. Commanders provide additional battlefield bonuses to the brigades and formations under their leadership, improving the effectiveness of troops operating with experienced officers.
Artillery Responsive Fire. Artillery batteries can now react to enemy movement with Responsive Fire, giving them a chance to disrupt or break up an enemy formation before it reaches the guns.
Destructible Buildings. Artillery can target enemy-occupied houses and buildings. Reduce a structure to 0% integrity and it will collapse, inflicting heavy casualties on any troops still inside.
Unit Range & Damage Preview. Select one of your formations and hover over an enemy within range to see an estimated casualty result before committing to infantry or artillery fire.
And much more.

Game Journey
Phase I: Tactical Battles of the American Revolution
Phase I focuses on historically grounded tactical battles, placing the player directly on the battlefield.
The game features a distinctive graphical user interface inspired by wood and brass, designed to immerse the player in the look and feel of the 18th century.
Players can choose to fight as the American Army or the British Army.
Significant historical research went into recreating each battle’s Order of Battle, including the number of soldiers per unit, the officers who led them, and the condition of each unit in terms of health, morale, and organization.
Combat is driven by a complete and in-depth system that evaluates numerous factors whenever a unit fires or charges an enemy. Terrain defensive values, unit health, organization, and morale all play a decisive role in determining the outcome of engagements.
Custom 3D models bring the battlefield to life, including American Continental brigades, Hessian infantry regiments, and historical figures such as George Washington and Colonel Johann Rall.
Terrain matters. Woods, homes, roads, and other hex types influence a unit’s movement and defensive value. If your army is not at its best, choosing better ground can be the difference between victory and defeat.
Combat is turn-based and hex-based, with formations playing a critical role. Column formations allow units to move faster, while line formations are used to engage the enemy with musket volleys or charges.
Combat is designed to reflect the realities of 18th-century warfare. Weapons, engagement distance, and battlefield conditions directly influence casualties and combat effectiveness.
