About this game

A Potential Scenario

You’re almost out of money. Two more days and you will no longer be able to pay your staff or gladiators. The fight scheduled today will draw exceptionally massive crowds in the arena, meaning the fight purse will be bountiful and the opportunity to place a large volume of bets will be high. One problem though: your top gladiator is fatigued from his last combat and has a nagging shoulder strain. Plus, with a history of concussions, it’s fair to say he will not be at full strength if you put him in the arena. But he’s the best you’ve got. The rest of your stable of fighters are rookies yet – still working through training with your staff and far too inexperienced to send into this brutal blood sport.

The next fight is a week away and poorly hyped. You cannot wait that long.

If you were ruthless, you could execute your top fighter and seize his life savings. With the fight purses you’ve shared through his career, he has amassed a fortune that could keep your business sim-style operations afloat for months.

If that feels too dishonorable, you could visit the money lenders. But their interest rates have been brutal lately: 30% or more. Financing current operations and economy management this way would harm you long-term.

Or maybe you risk it all and send your fatigued but elite gladiator into the arena. Ranked 3rd overall in Leptis Magnus, he still has a real shot at victory in this high-stakes turn-based combat match.

But if he dies, you lose everything.

What do you do in this strategy sim of fame, reputation, and resource management set in ancient Rome?

What Is It?

Age of Gladiators is a singleplayer strategy and management sim set during the height of the bloody games of ancient Rome. It blends elements of business simulation, stable management, training systems, tactical RPG combat, and sports sim-style character progression.

Recruit and manage your gladiators, oversee their training, monitor their injuries, morale, and fatigue, and prepare them for the brutal fighting arenas of the Roman Republic. Build your tycoon-style empire as you expand your stable, hire staff, manage your finances and economy, and climb from provincial arenas to the legendary Coliseum.

Features:

Dynamically generated gladiators with unique attributes, RPG-style character progression, personalities, and combat specialties.

Manage fatigue, injuries, morale, greed, fame, and reputation to keep your fighters ready for battle.

Training and age systems that reflect peak physical performance and decline over time.

A fame system where victorious gladiators rise to glory and may even enter the Hall of Fame.

Leaderboards tracking wins, kills, and reputation across both active and retired arena legends.

Tactical, turn-based fighting combined with management sim depth – prepare your fighters, equip them, and watch them battle.

Recruit, trade, or sell gladiators with rival bosses in this competitive business sim.

Participate in risky quests: rob treasuries, assassinate rivals, kidnap fighters, or engage in other dangerous schemes.

Explore a living marketplace: weapons, armor, loans, and economy-driven opportunities all dynamically change.

Hire staff including trainers, doctors, scouts, and blacksmiths – all of whom improve over time.

Upgrade your gladiator stable with better facilities: food, bedding, and more.

Grow your wealth, improve your reputation, and strive to dominate this deadly blood sport.

Bet for or against your fighters using odds generated by in-game bookmakers tied to fight hype.

Each playthrough is procedurally generated for endless strategy sim replayability.

Other

Age of Gladiators is perfect for fans of sports sims like "Out of the Park Baseball" or management sims like "Football Manager". It also appeals to those who enjoy strategy sims and historical business simulations in the vein of Paradox titles.

If you’ve ever wanted a game that merges ancient Rome, tycoon-style management, tactical turn-based combat, economy systems, and RPG character progression, then this is the ultimate gladiator simulation.
