Xbox game keys are often labelled "Xbox One", "Xbox Series X|S" or both. It matters, because the wrong one can leave you with an older version of the game, or one that won't run at all. Here's what each label means.
Keys for both generations
Many games are sold as "Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S". Buy once and you can play on either console: your Xbox downloads the right version automatically. Microsoft calls this Smart Delivery. If you upgrade from an Xbox One to a Series console later, you don't pay again.
Xbox One keys
An Xbox One key gives you the Xbox One version. Thanks to backward compatibility, almost all Xbox One games also play on Xbox Series X|S, sometimes with faster loading or improved frame rates. But you get the older version, not a dedicated next-gen version with its extra features.
Xbox Series X|S keys
A Series X|S only key is for the newer consoles. It won't work on an Xbox One. If you still play on an Xbox One, avoid these.
How Zemly shows it
Every Xbox offer on Zemly says exactly what the key plays on, in plain words:
- "Plays on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S"
- "Plays on Xbox Series X|S only"
- "Plays on Xbox One, and on Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility"
The Xbox Series and Xbox One tiles on each game page only list keys for that console, so you won't pick the wrong one by mistake. We only show what the store's own listing says; keys that don't state a console generation are left out.
Play Anywhere
Some keys also mention Windows or PC. These are Xbox Play Anywhere games: buy once and play on Xbox and Windows PC with the same Microsoft account.
Quick guide
- Own an Xbox One? Choose "Xbox One" or "Xbox One and Series X|S" keys.
- Own a Series X|S? Any of them work, but "Series X|S" or "both" gives you the newest version.
- Not sure? "Xbox One and Series X|S" keys are the safe choice.
